We decided to evacuate.

We weren't called, just decided it was too close to get any sleep. We are at Elinoire's cottage in an urban area closer to the center city. Cat and bird are fine, exploring their new surrounds. More tomorrow.

UPDATE: The fire has turned northwards in our vicinity, so we were easily able to go home and are probably in no danger. We will still sleep at Elinoire's (cat and bird are there) tonight for maximum sleep and minimum smoke. The fire is 0% contained and they don't expect containment for a week, so we're not out of the woods yet. Still, it felt good to go home for a while. We're in a colo facility right now trying to fix my email (vpolichar at gmail dot com is still the best bet for now). Thanks for the good thoughts.

I'm knitting! I guess the stress finally lowered to the point where I could. Khaki cables sleeve #2 is making progress at last.

I hadn't really been paying attenion to the fires with all the mother moving details but when I looked last night at the news I became frantic that you and Elinor were okay. Stay safe! Keep us posted as you are able.

I've been thinking of you and Rob, and hoping you wouldn't have to evacuate. I guess choosing to evacuate is better than being forced to do so. Stay safe, and best wishes to you and the critters.

I'm so glad to hear you are safe; I've been thinking of you and all the others who are so close to danger. Take care!

Oh Valerie I have been thinking about you in San Diego and I truly hope your house is safe and that you made it out with all your yarn, family and animals....sounds like you did. I had a scare myself as I live in East Irvine very near the Santiago Fire, my car was packed and catties corralled laying in wait for the word. smells like a fireplace here....icky I'm praying for your safe return for you and your family (and your yarn).
